Visit to 'New Life' Charitable Trust

On December 2^nd Samarthan team along with students from IFMR visited The New life charitable trust

This event was all about spending time with the forgotten and abandoned Grandmothers , Grandfathers and also the young ones. With the help of donations given by both students and faculties of IFMR we were also able to take with us groceries for them ,sufficient for a month ,and also donate a small amount for the charity.

On reaching New Life we first we met with the elders, had a good interaction with them and saw their living space and condition ,some of them were very happy and poured their hearts out to us and we were all ears to their stories  .The experience was heart touching and for many of us a first-hand experience of knowing them personally .Hopefully we have been of some help in alleviating their pain.

Now it was time to meet the children ,as always they were vibrant enthusiastic  and full of life ,we had a brief interaction and  then the bell for lunch was sounded .Many of us joined in serving the food and everyone including us had lunch ,the food was divine!!.

After a good meal it was time for “fun and games” organized for children. Games like musical chair ,passing the ball and “races with some twist” was conducted  this also gave opportunity for the children to showcase their talents and they did it by singing and dancing .Prizes and gifts were given away to the winners.

It was almost the end of our visit ,we were also shown the cattle shed they maintain, the trust is self-sufficient in milk and milk products because of this .

It was almost 6.00 pm and time for us to leave ,we had accomplished our goal of giving whatever we could to the these less privileged brothers and sisters  but in return we had got much more , the life experience of many elderly and learning to enjoy the small things in life. The experience was priceless and we left their place with a smile on our face and tinge of pain in our heart and a strong desire to contribute even more!! 

 
            

   

    

     

Convocation 2012

Convocation is the day each student awaits because of the special meaning it adds to one’s life. The completion of an era of education and the start of a renewed vigor and enthusiasm, be it towards work or further education. So was the convocation ceremony held at the IFMR campus last Friday for the year 2012. The list of degree receivers included PGDM full time students, part time students and one PhD student. The convocation was honored by the presence of the chief guest Mr A. Vellayan, Executive Chairman, Murugappa group and Mr N Vaghul, Chairman, Board of Governors of IFMR. The program started with a welcome speech from the President of IFMR, Prof C V Krishnan, which was followed by the convocation honours and a speech from the chief guest. In his note of connect to the students, Mr A. Vellayan emphasized on the importance of global competitiveness, corporate governance and innovation in business while keeping oneself humble. He spoke about the comparative situation of India, China and Israel on an economic perspective and how the Indian economy may be subject to improvement by budding managers. Mr. N Vaghul also addressed the gathering focusing on constant cultivation of excellence and pursuit of glory beyond personal content. Various awards of excellence were distributed among the highest scoring students apart from the degree honours. Vote of thanks for the evening was proposed by the Dean of IFMR, Dr. Balasubramanian. The event ended with the reunion of batch members at the high tea where yesteryear memories and talks were exchanged among the students and faculty members present for the occasion.

Fresher's Party-2012

                                                                             

 What is synonymous to an evening filled with laughter, warmth and non-stop dance? For IFMRians it was the Fresher’s Eve with the theme “Mismatch”. With preparations going around for a week, the juniors gave a pleasant surprise to the seniors through outstanding performances, be it songs or dances, while the seniors reverted with great music to groove to and superb oration. To add up to the spice of the evening, special rounds of dedications were conducted where people could dedicate songs to the ones who hold a special niche in their college life. Now the important question, which fresher party is complete without a Mr. and Ms. Fresher? Obviously the answer is none so through a series of question answer rounds, finally the names of Hasitha and Krishnan were etched on the crowns of Ms. and Mr. Fresher. Both were given a memento and a gift pack. The prize winning session did not end here, accolades were given for being the best dancer (male and female), best singer and best dressed. But the real fun started when the in-house DJ, Asad, got everyone on the floor. For what seemed like an unending night, the seniors and juniors kept dancing till they dropped, keeping aside all boundaries of formality. Granting us a great break from academics and a treasure of priceless moments, the Fresher’s Eve ended with vivacious hearts and a stronger senior junior symbiosis.
