Samarthan’, the social service club of Institute for Financial Management & Research hosted the fourth edition of ‘Lakshmi Bal Mahotsav’ at IFMR campus on 18th December, 2011. Launched three years ago, in fond memory of Lakshmi Iyer Appu, a beloved student of IFMR’s PGDM Batch of 2008-10, this event aimed at providing a day of fun, learning and sharing, for underprivileged kids. This time the club invited 167 children from 4 NGOs – Hands of compassion, Exnora, SRS Sarvodaya Girls’ Hostel, Sevalaya apart from 9 kids from local areas. This year, the theme of Lakshmi Bal Mahotsav was ‘Cartoon’. The entire campus bore the look of a world of fantasy and cartoons which was adored by Disney world characters and super heroes.
Lakshmi Bal Mahotsav - IV started with a prayer and lighting of the lamp by Dr. Bobby Srinivasan, President of IFMR. The children were then served a healthy breakfast.
The first activity was the ‘Drawing Contest’. This set the stage for expressing the freedom of their mind and creative imagination. The day progressed with innovative stall games like ‘Jigzaw Puzzle’, ‘Memory Game’, ‘Bindi Game’, ‘Tail the donkey’, ‘Sportsmen-Leaders Quiz’, ‘Breaking the Pyramid’, ‘Basketball’ etc. and they provided the children with ample opportunities to be at their creative best. Deliberate efforts on the part of the organizers were made to give the campus the feel of a ‘Mela’ which was adorned with festoons of bright colours. The students were served with a sumptuous lunch which was followed by the Cartoon making competition. Next in line was an hour long mesmerizing Magic Show which left the little guests spellbound. The series of events ended with a lively ‘Talent Show Contest’ where the groups of children showcased their talents; making it a real treat for the on-lookers. Prizes for all the contests held throughout the day were then awarded and all the kids were gifted with goodie packets. As it was time for the little guests to bid adieu to IFMR, all of them painted their hands on the portrait of Lakshmi, giving the fest an approval.
This year, Lakshmi Bal Mahotsav saw participation and contributions from individuals, Alumni’s and various corporates such as State Bank of India, WS Group, ITCot, Dare2Compete.com (Online Media Partner), Business Line (Media Partner) , Research Centers of IFMR and the IFMR Trust.
