Lakshmi Bal Mahotsav - Zoolympics

Leo F. Buscaglia has said it in true words:
“Too often we underestimate the power of a touch, a smile, a kind word, a
listening ear, an honest compliment, or the smallest act of caring, all
of which have the potential to turn a life around.”
Indeed it takes just a caress to understand the true essence of humanity and to get that from the most innocent forms of life is a joy nothing else can beat. Lakshmi Bal Mahotsav, organized by the social service club “Samarthan” at IFMR, is celebrated in fond remembrance of an IFMR student, Lakshmi who passed away in an accident. Childhood is the most precious stage in everyone’s life and every year LBM brings it back to the students who, somewhere in the fast pace managerial aspirations, have forgotten about this essential element.  This day not only gives us the opportunity to spread happiness to around 200 kids from different orphanages but also reminds us of the core values of trust and love which these kids exhibit in all walks of life. This year LBM 5 saw both the batches working day in and day out, making every effort to spread a smile to the tiny tots, be it the huge paintings of cartoons, the zoo theme decorations, the gifts or the different games which were carefully thought out keeping the kids in mind. The event witnessed the naughty and nice side of the little angels which came out in their carefree laughter, their immediate affection towards the IFMRians and the simple pranks which they played among themselves. With tears in everyone’s eyes, the dusk of LBM saw the children waving goodbye to their newly made Annas and Akkas. Though the children had a fun time out and returned with gifts in their little hands, the occasion gave more than a tangible gift to the students. It reinstated the fact that all we need for happiness is trust on each other and the will to make things positive. What we can’t possess shouldn’t matter in our lives, what should matter is how we live each moment of things we are blessed with.
