First two weeks @IFMR

It was 6 AM in the morning. My mother was almost done with those customary rituals that we have
before leaving home for a holy purpose. After spoiling my last 4 days at the railway counters in vain for
that elusive tatkal ticket, I had finally decided to take a flight to Chennai.

11 AM and I was already above the Indian Ocean, fighting so many thoughts that debarred me to enjoy
the scenic beauty beneath. Not that I was not used to travelling alone, but at the airport, waiting for a
taxi, I did feel as lonely as a landline telephone. In the meanwhile, I had the most expensive maggi of my
life, which taught me a lesson of self-control with every bite.

Taxi came soon and after a glossary of awkward expressions, I managed to tell him where I wanted to
go. After finishing the formalities, I was already in Sri City by 3 PM.

Those untraveled steps outside our comfort zone, which we conveniently dodge. For me, coming to
IFMR was indeed one of them. I came alone, but the baggage was heavy. The baggage of apprehensions
flirting with bundles of expectations. It was like being in a room full of strangers. Amidst everyone
fighting their own mini battles, we shared the same dreams with different eyes.

The first week just rolled past by. Getting to know each other, cribbing about weather, food, Acs and
what not , trying to present the "best me" and the immense loneliness of that. Life inside the campus
was consuming enough to let everything take a backseat. We were introduced to our faculty members
who tried to tell us how stressfully exciting our next two years will be. It was fun in it’s purest academic
form.
The second week, the real world, and the transition was as smooth as switching on to something as
exciting as Game of Thrones from those epic Ekta Kapoor's sitcoms. The mind was ready, the heart and
the body wasn't. Classes began and we took those baby steps towards becoming future managers.

As I write this, I am done with half a dozen tests, a dozen assignments and presentations and most of the
acquaintances have inched closer to become friendships. My life has been upped a gear and I am
enjoying every bit of this madness.

If Engineering is a battle, MBA is war where you just have to keep running and running to stay ahead in
the race. As they say, some wars are just about fighting, beyond the grey shades of winning and losing.

The journey has just begun and so has the dream. More to come later..........

Freshers' Party 2013

Freshers’ Party 2013 was a charming extravaganza to break formalities and bring about a buoyant, beautiful relationship between the batches. Organized with alacrity and acumen by the students of Batch-13 and Laasya ( IFMR Cultural Club),the event heightened the spirits of youngsters.
As in every other social event at IFMR, the entertainment quotient was high. Mellifluous melody of our master singers had a magical effect on the discerning audience. Dancers set the stage ablaze with their energy and zeal. The performances were a colourful mix of fast peppy numbers and enthralling salsa. Ads-up and dance centered around comedy evoked hearty laughter.
Mr.Sourav Kamilya and Ms.Monica Mishra were crowned as Mr.and Miss.Fresher respectively.   Mr. Abhijith.T and Ms.Manoja Duggaraju were lauded for their high voltage performances. Ms.Gayathri.S and Mr.Sahil Manchanda were chosen as the best dancers. Ms.Sama Pranitha Reddy was selected as the best singer.

The fast paced event presented a welcome break from monotony and served as a shot in the arm to pursue our goals with ease and enthusiasm.

Lakshmi Bal Mahotsav - Zoolympics

Leo F. Buscaglia has said it in true words:
“Too often we underestimate the power of a touch, a smile, a kind word, a
listening ear, an honest compliment, or the smallest act of caring, all
of which have the potential to turn a life around.”
Indeed it takes just a caress to understand the true essence of humanity and to get that from the most innocent forms of life is a joy nothing else can beat. Lakshmi Bal Mahotsav, organized by the social service club “Samarthan” at IFMR, is celebrated in fond remembrance of an IFMR student, Lakshmi who passed away in an accident. Childhood is the most precious stage in everyone’s life and every year LBM brings it back to the students who, somewhere in the fast pace managerial aspirations, have forgotten about this essential element.  This day not only gives us the opportunity to spread happiness to around 200 kids from different orphanages but also reminds us of the core values of trust and love which these kids exhibit in all walks of life. This year LBM 5 saw both the batches working day in and day out, making every effort to spread a smile to the tiny tots, be it the huge paintings of cartoons, the zoo theme decorations, the gifts or the different games which were carefully thought out keeping the kids in mind. The event witnessed the naughty and nice side of the little angels which came out in their carefree laughter, their immediate affection towards the IFMRians and the simple pranks which they played among themselves. With tears in everyone’s eyes, the dusk of LBM saw the children waving goodbye to their newly made Annas and Akkas. Though the children had a fun time out and returned with gifts in their little hands, the occasion gave more than a tangible gift to the students. It reinstated the fact that all we need for happiness is trust on each other and the will to make things positive. What we can’t possess shouldn’t matter in our lives, what should matter is how we live each moment of things we are blessed with.
