ONAM 2015

Onam was celebrated amidst a lot of fun and frolic in the campus of IFMR on the 14^th and 15^th of September,2015.

The celebrations on the first day were kick started with traditional Onam games where most of the IFMRians participated with great enthusiasm. Tug of war which is locally known as Vadamvali was a big hit amongst the students. The evening was further intensified with a flash-mob dance performed by the Malayali Students who extended a formal invitation to all of us at the end of it for the festivities of the next day.

The second day of celebrations brought with it a delicious traditional Onam lunch called Onam Sadhya for the entire IFMR family. It had a generous spread of a variety of Kerala food that all of us enjoyed thoroughly. The cultural program began in the afternoon in the portico of Takshashila. Prof P.K.Biswas, TR Venkatesh, Suresh Venkatraman and Sunil Bhatla Sir lit the traditional lamp and gave a formal go ahead signal for the night. A beautiful performance of Thiruvathira captured the crowd’s heart. A skit was enacted revealing the story behind Onam.

The evening was brought to an end with the traditional arm wrestling completion called Panja Gushti.
